OLDSMAR, FL (WFLA) - They're playful, engaging and always ready to show you their true level of intelligence.

"Here kitty kitty kitty kitty" said Rebel, the African Grey parrot.

As I interviewed his owners Lynda Sanchez of Oldsmar's Everything Birds, her playful bird kept butting into our conversation, even trying to drink coffee. Well, actually it was a mug full of water.

"He'll whistle at girls, he coughs, he sneezes, he laughs," said Sanchez who's been in the bird business for nearly 15 years.

With the help of her husband Lynda runs the largest companion bird store in Florida, and second in the nation behind a shop in New Jersey. Like a bird whisperer, Lynda knows each species and subspecies - from wee ones to large exotic birds. Describing the beautiful birds as intriguing and enchanting, Lynda says they are always ready to bond.

"This is how they think and they are absolutely enamored with their family, you're part of the flock, you are the flock," Sanchez said.

Sanchez feels it's important to customers to know before they buy a bird - it's a huge commitment because some species live into their 90s, and bond extensively, sensing your moods, emotions. They even pick up your vocabulary.

"They love explicative, they love drama," Sanchez explained. "So yeah, be careful of what you say because they can't unlearn it like you can tell a child don't say that word."

Inside 'Everything Birds' sprawling space you can find toys, treats, accessories, perches, training tools, aviary accessories and handmade foods good enough for humans to eat. There are even smart toys to keep your highly intelligent bird challenged.

Before a bird is ready to come home Sanchez lets customers help with the bird bonding process, even offers free grooming, so customers have support in caring for their new feathered friend.

Free grooming is available to birds purchased at Everything Birds. If you would like to learn more about this amazing shop unique to Tampa Bay, visit the store located at the Oldsmar Flea Market.
