Former Shelby Co. educator faces child predator charges

Posted: Updated:
Fourteen people were arrested over the weekend in Georgia in an undercover operation looking for suspect online child predators.

One of the suspects is a former assistant principal in the Shelby County School System.

John McGill worked Shelby County High School from 1993-1996, and Elvin Hill Elementary School from 1996 until he resigned from the position in 1997.

McGill is currently the principal of an elementary school in Douglas County, Georgia.

He and the other suspects are accused of traveling across north Georgia with intentions to have sex with children they met on the internet.

All 14 have been charged under the Computer Pornography and Child Exploitation Prevention Act of 1999.

According to the Shelby County School System’s employment file, there were never any issues with McGill during his time working for the district. School spokesperson Cindy Warner said he always received average or above average ratings on his evaluations.
