State Department of Transportation officials say they're working to make sure the free Georgia 511 system is up to date with evolving technology.
GDOT officials say more than 9 million people have used the 511 helpline, more than 2.8 million people visit the program's website annually, and more than 100,000 people have downloaded the 511 mobile app.
State traffic engineer Kathy Zahul says when Georgia 511 was launched in 2007, GDOT hoped the program would become a first point of contact for travelers, and officials are proud of its progress.
GDOT officials say the department is considering allowing users to store their preferred commute routes in a database so that callers will automatically be provided with information on their routes when they dial in.
