DiChiara suing Phenix City schools - again

Posted: Updated:
PHENIX CITY, Ala. - Fired superintendent Dr. Larry DiChiara is filing a new lawsuit against the Phenix City School District for money he says he is still owed.

DiChiara is seeking the salary and benefits he says the Board of Education owes him the four and half years that were left on his contract. He electronically filed the lawsuit Sunday in Russell County Circuit Court.

In December, DiChiara had filed a lawsuit seeking paid salary owed to him until a buyout had been finalized. He received his last paycheck at the end of February and says he does not understand why he cannot seem to get paid for the contract.

"I would have been happy if, on Nov. 27, they had paid the contract out and we all could right now be moving on with our lives," says DiChiara. "A lot of money could have been saved by the school district that could have better been spent on the kids. However, here we are in March, and they still have not honored their contract."

The board voted unanimously in November to fire DiChiara.
