LEE COUNTY, Ala. - FIRST ON WRBL NEWS 3: A Phenix City man has been arrested following a shooting outside the Lee County home of Eric Woodson, an administrator of a popular, online neighborhood watch group.

Zachary Health Blitz, 22, has been charged with disorderly conduct, Capt. Van Jackson of the Lee County Sheriff's Office said Thursday morning in a news release. Investigators believe Blitz drove to the Lee Road 2105 home Wednesday because he was angry about a post Woodson made to the "Neighborhood Watchers" group, which has nearly 15,000 members.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones told News 3 witnesses saw Blitz's truck driving in their neighborhood before the shooting.

"He was going back and forth like he didn't know what he was going to do," says witness Alexi Holmes. "I've never seen that truck before around this neighborhood, so it was just weird."

Woodson came out of his home armed with a shotgun after Blitz allegedly threw a brick at the home, Capt. Jackson says in a news release.

"The resident of the house where the object had been thrown came out of his house armed with a shotgun and ran into the street to confront the driver of the truck," Capt. Jackson writes. "Witnesses stated that as the truck came toward him the resident fired at least two times into the front of the truck."

Blitz then drove out of the neighborhood before being located by authorities a short time later. No one was injured in the shooting.

A neighbor who caught the truck driving down the street on his personal surveillance camera says the truck had a red towel over the license plate.

Blitz is awaiting court action on charges of Indecent Exposure in Phenix City municipal court in an unrelated incident, according to the Capt, Jackson. He told investigators he found Woodson's Web posting about him derogatory.

Woodson says he was inside his home with his 6-year-old son when he first noticed the truck. Woodson says when he got to his mailbox, the truck accelerated towards him. That's when he fired his shotgun four times at the lower-part of the vehicle. Witnesses say once Woodson started shooting, the truck quickly drove away but didn't make it far because of the damage to the vehicle.

“I feel like I did what anyone would have done in that situation,” Woodson tells News 3. “I was protecting my family. It was cowardly attempt to have me stop commenting on the Neighborhood Watchers page. I can say someone made a serious error in judgment today.”

The Lee County Sheriff's Office says the incident remains under investigation and additional charges are possible.

    Heat and humidity continue

The bulk of the rain has been well to our west today and will stay that way for the duration of tonight and tomorrow. We'll only see an isolated shower or storm the next few days due to most of the tropical moisture lifting well north of us. That's all due to an area of low pressure in the upper Midwest that is sucking it all north. This will leave us on the warm and humid side of things, which is why isolated showers and storms are in the forecast the next few days.
