Search for fugitive leads to discovery of cash, pills, guns

DURHAM, N.C. -

Acting on a request from the Senoia, Georgia police department, Durham County sheriff's deputies found prescription pills, guns, cash and counterfeit U.S. currency during their search for a fugitive.

An investigator with the Senoia Police Department contacted the Durham County Sheriff's Office's warrant office last week with the request that authorities go to a home in the 2700 block of Hinson Drive to try to locate and arrest 22-year-old Denzel Kewon Poole.

An investigator in Senoia told deputies that Poole had several outstanding warrants for his arrest and was suspected of burglarizing several pharmacies in the city.

When authorities arrived at 2731 Hinson Drive in Durham on Thursday, March 6, they were unable to locate the suspect.

While deputies did not find Poole, they did find a number of guns, more than 20,000 prescription pills, $4,000 in counterfeit currency and $10,000 cash.

Three of the weapons found at the scene were stolen. An AR-15 rifle had been reported stolen out of Statesville was recovered, as well as a Smith & Wesson .380 caliber semi-automatic pistol from Orange County and a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber revolver from Durham.

Along with the guns, approximately 13,000 hydrocodone pills, more than 400 morphine pills, more than one hundred clonzepam and codeine pills and thousands of other non-narcotic prescription pills.

The street value of the pills is approximately $200,000, according to officials.

Additional arrest warrants for Poole have now been obtained. He's wanted on the following charges:

  • Possessionwith intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance
  • Possessionwith intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance
  • Possessionwith intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule III controlled substance
  • Traffickingopium or heroin
  • Possessionof a stolen firearm
  • Maintaininga dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing, selling or delivering a controlledsubstance
  • Possessionof less than one-half ounce of marijuana
  • Possessionof drug paraphernalia
