Naval Hospital using robotic mannequins for training

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - They breathe, moan and cry just like humans.

Only they're not humans.

Naval Hospital Camp Lejeune established a simulation lab to help its doctors and hospital corpsmen hone their medical skills with robotic mannequins.

"Yeah they're a little freaky at first," Brandon Shea, Hospital Corpsman Third Class, said. "They blink on their own. They move on their own. They breathe on their own."

Simulation tech Frank St.Denis said it's safer and more effective using robotic mannequins instead of live patients.

"It gives you that little bit of freedom to make mistakes without real consequences," St.Denis said.
