FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Fayetteville Dream Center held its ribbon cutting Friday, officially beginning the organization’s efforts to help people in need in the All-American City.

The center is a faith-based partnership with Manna Church. It is a non-profit with a stated goal of rescuing people from “suffering, slavery and sin.”

Director Kelly Twedell said the center aims to help lots of different people in lots of different ways. The center will ultimately serve as a centralized location for people to seek assistance because the Dream Center will either assist directly or coordinate efforts with other organizations. Community outreach projects will be a major effort, and volunteers will be an integral part of those projects and other work at the center.

“We all have a story. Some of us have been rescued from a past,” Twedell said. “Whether they’re dealing with addictions or getting out of prison, or looking to even get help with a résumé, or some professional clothing help – we’ll have a professional clothing closet – there’s a lot of resources that we hope to provide.”

Single mothers, widows, at-risk youth and the homeless are also potential beneficiaries of the Dream Center’s plans. Twedell said there are plans to help people in their homes and communities through projects such as home and yard improvements and clean-ups. After-school activities such as sports may also be organized.

“Wherever the need is, we hope to meet that,” Twedell said.

Part of the center’s mission is also to combat human trafficking. The center will partner with organizations “to end this injustice and rescue people from captivity,” according to the center’s website.

The center also aims to build, rebuild or strengthen each person’s relationship with God. The Christian base of the organization will be seen through its many projects.

The Fayetteville Dream Center is modeled after other Dream Centers in other cities throughout the United States. More details and volunteering opportunities can be found at http://www.thefayettevilledreamcenter.org/.
