RALEIGH, N.C. -

The inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Raleigh Marathon and half marathon will close roads Sunday throughout downtown Raleigh.

The marathon starts at 7 a.m., but most road closures will be in effect between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. Streets will reopen when the last participant passes and race materials are removed.

The race is sold out with 12,500 runners from 49 states and 5 foreign countries. The race benefits the The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

The following roads will be closed on race day:

  • South Salisbury Street from South Street to West Hargett Street
  • South McDowell Street from West South Street to West Jones Street
  • North Blount Street from East North Street to Martin Luther King Boulevard and from Delway Street to East Peace Street
  • Martin Luther King Boulevard from Blount Street to Chavis Way
  • Chavis Way from MLK to East Davie Street
  • West Hargett Street from South Dawson Street to Fayetteville Street
  • West Jones Street from North McDowell Street to North Wilmington Street
  • Bloodworth Street from East Davie Street to Oakwood Avenue
  • Brookside Drive from Watuaga Street to Glascock Street
  • Glascock Street from Brookside Drive to Wake Forest Road
  • Wake Forest Road from Glascock Street to Mordecai Drive
  • Peace Street from North Blount Street to West Johnson/Bellwood Drive
  • Clark Avenue from West Johnson/Bellwood Drive to Gardner Street
  • Hillsborough Street from Gorman Street to Pullen Road; westbound lanes of Hillsborough Street will be closed from Gorman Street to Blue Ridge Road
  • Blue Ridge Road from Hillsborough Street to Trinity Road
  • Trinity Road from Blue Ridge Road to Edwards Mill Road
  • Edwards Mill Road from Trinity Road to Reedy Creek Road
  • Reedy Creek Road at Edwards Mill Road
  • Pullen Road from Hillsborough Street to Western Boulevard
  • Western Boulevard from Pullen Road to Hunt Drive
  • West Lenoir Street from South Saunders Street to South Boylan Avenue
  • South Saunders Street from Lake Wheeler Road to Lenoir Street
  • South Boylan Avenue from West Lenoir Street to West Morgan Street

Participants and spectators are encouraged to carpool or utilize the suggested drop off points at the start and finish line. Runner drop offs will be located at Cabarrus and Wilmington and the corner of Cabarrus and Dawson.

For those who drive to the event, the downtown parking decks listed below are the primary parking option at the start and finish. Due to road closures and heavy race morning traffic, it is highly recommended that all cars are parked prior to 6:00 a.m.

  • Blount Street Deck (Wilmington St. and Davie St.)
  • Moore Square Deck (Wilmington St. and Martin St.)
  • Wilmington Station Deck (Wilmington St. and Hargett St.)
