COLUMBUS, Ga. -

For the first time since 2012, the Columbus Cottonmouths are headed back to the President’s Cup Finals.

The Snakes beat Huntsville, 4-2, Thursday night at home, sweeping the Havoc in the semifinals.

Columbus now awaits the winner of the Knoxville/Pensacola series. The six-seed Ice Bears beat the top-seed Ice Flyers, 2-0, in game one.

Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Kyle Johnson let loose a slap shot from the blue line that tied the game, where it stayed until the 8:59 mark in the second period. Matt Gingera found Mike Switzer at the front of the net to give Columbus the lead.

Huntsville tied it again in the third, but Gingera got his second assist of the night, finding Jordan Draper to give the Cottonmouths a lead they would not relinquish.

Gingera scored the final tally on an empty net goal.
