Last day to register to vote in mayoral race is April 21

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA, Ga. -

April 21 is the last day for new voters interested in casting ballots in the May 20th elections to register. That day includes the race for Columbus mayor and Georgia primary races.

“Every Georgian should have the opportunity to vote in the May 20th Primary Election,” says Secretary of State Brian Kemp says in a news release. “The good news is that it is easier than ever to get registered to vote or to change your registration information.”

Georgians with a valid Georgia driver’s license can go online and register at: https://registertovote.sos.ga.gov/GAOLVR/#no-back-button.

The “My Voter Page” (MVP) app also allows Georgians to register to vote. They can view their specific sample ballot, find their polling locations, check voter registration status and track the status of their absentee ballot. All of this information is available on mobile devices on Apple and Android platforms. To find the app search for “GA Votes” in the app store.

Kemp launched the new systems last week at a combined meeting of the Georgia Election Officials Association/Voter Registrars Association of Georgia in Augusta, GA with election leaders from across the state. It is believed that Georgia is the first state in the nation to offer both online registration as well as an innovative mobile application that enables voter registration like “MVP”.

Instead of destroying them, The Columbus Police Department is selling hundreds of seized guns. Some of the guns were used in crimes, others were found on the road- all of them now headed back to the streets.“The policeman in me says I’d rather not see that gun back on the street, we’ve already gotten a hold of it once, but you’ve got 550 guns- will every one of them be used in a crime? No. Some of them will be sold to someone that will enjoy the use of that gun for the rest of their life and ...
