Damien "Nighthawk" Daniels makes PIFL history as Lions cruise

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - History was made Friday night in The Jungle.

Lions defensive back Damien "Nighthawk" Daniels broke the Professional Indoor Football League career interceptions record, recording interceptions number 98 and 99.

The first tied the record, and came early in the second quarter. Daniels picked off a pass deflected at the line and returned it 28 yards for a touchdown to give the Lions a 24-6 lead over the Georgia Fire.

History was made later in that same quarter. Daniels jumped a route and intercepted his second pass of the game, 99th of his career. The game was briefly stopped to honor his accomplishment.

Only a record-breaking performance could overshadow a night where the Lions cruised past the Fire, 71-34. Columbus scored on their first two plays from scrimmage, both 40 yards passes from Antwon Young. Earl Alexander caught the first, Jarmon Fortson the second.

Columbus improves to 2-1 on the year. They are back in action on April 19, on the road at Trenton.
