Headquarter Nissan Athletes of the Week: Glenwood Gators Soccer

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, GA - Winning state championships has become the norm at Glenwood High School. The latest team to be crowned champions is members of the Glenwood High Girls soccer team.

News 3’s Carlos Williams went to Glenwood to crown them Headquarter Nissan Athletes of the Week.

The Glenwood High Girls soccer team went up against a strong group from Macon-East in the AISA AAA state championship contest.

The Lady Gators started slow, and then picked up the pace against Macon-East to come away with a hard fought 3-2 victory.

Glenwood got goals from Carson Collins, Whitley Anderson and Emily Robertson to bring home their second straight championship.

"We knew we were going to win. We knew it was going to be tough. Everybody was out for us since we won it last year. But, when we won, it was really exciting. It was my last year and i came out with a state championship,” said Emily Robertson.

“Having the same people back and only losing one person from last year. We definitely had the confidence to go all the way again,” said Terry Hodge.

“As a midfielder, my job was to get the ball up, help them to cross it, pass it, and get them to score,” said Jenna Wilson.

"I feel like after last year just losing one player, we definitely had the confidence. We came out strong, ready to win, and do what we had to do to get there,” said Whitley Anderson.

And good news for those who follow Glenwood girl’s soccer, this year’s team was comprised of only one senior.

“We are young. The good thing about that is they actually know how to play the game of soccer. It makes my job a lot easier,” said Glenwood coach John Robertson.

And so we say congratulations to the Glenwood High School girl’s soccer team our Headquarter Nissan Athletes of the week.
