More Evidence Mounts In Case Of Missing SC Viper

Posted: Updated:
MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - (WCBD)  More evidence has surfaced that lead experts to believe that the Gaboon Viper is still on the loose in Harbor Pointe Apartments.

What is now only pieces of the snake's skin was approximately 95% of the shed skin when it was found, only missing part of the head. When the skin was originally found, it was in one piece, but after the removal and investigation of the skin, it broke up into smaller pieces, some of the those small pieces being lost. After the skin was examined, it was determined that the viper is a minimal four feet in length.

Michelle Ried, Executive Director of Animal Rescue and Relief Inc., believes that the viper is still on the loose. "While the snake has not
yet been found, there are signs that this is not a prank and the snake could still be on the property."

Other evidence of the Viper is a sighting that Ried believes was the snake. A resident of the apartment complex described a large snake with skin that fits the pattern of the Gaboon Viper. The sighting happened prior to the skin being found. There was also another potential sighting within the past seven days.

With more evidence, including the sightings, Ried along with Raymond Covington of Covington Nuisance Wildlife Removal Service, still urge those in the area of Mount Pleasant near Harbor Pointe Apartments to be on the look out and take the necessary measures to protects themselves. Ried urges everyone that children are supervised at all times and people stay away from bushes and overgrown areas.
