Nick Marshall owns leadership role at Auburn

Now that A-Day is over for the Auburn Tigers, we can look back what we have learned from Auburn this spring, and most of the lessons are centered around the passing game.

Nick Marshall was incredibly efficient in the spring game Saturday, and he has emerged as a leader for the Tigers.

With Tre Mason gone to the NFL, the Tigers need Marshall to step up and be the leader of the offense. It sounds like that Marshall is answering the call.

“Obviously when you're the quarterback, you're already in a leadership role,” said Head Coach Gus Malzahn. “He earned the respect of his teammates last year. But, now he has had a chance to go through spring and take that to the next level. Nick is more of a leader by example. He doesn't say a lot. But, when he does, they listen.”

“I've been the same thing I’ve been doing. I'm just going to be myself and lead my team back,” said Marshall.

“I think he played like a vet. Like a NFL type quarterback. Going through all his reads and making the right reads. He made the right throws and had fun out there with his teammates,” said wide receiver Quan Bray.

Nick Marshall might be the best quarterback in the SEC. There is no Murray, Manziel, McCarron, or Mettenberger. Marshall, the former Georgia defensive back, might be the top passer in the conference.
