Fire and Rescue Citizen's Academy

Posted: Updated:
A few folks in Greenville took to the sky tonight learning about some of the city's emergency services.

It's called the Citizens' Academy. It gives residents the opportunity to tour city facilities and learn how they operate.

Tonight Greenville Fire and Rescue demonstrated various pieces of equipment. Residents also were able to get a hands-on experience with an ambulance, urban search and rescue vehicles and get this... riding in the bucket of the Fire Department's 100 foot tower truck.

Our very own 9OYS photojournalist, Antony Sherrod took the ride up to 95 feet.

Those who took part on both sides say it's good to get up close and personal and learning how first responders do their job on a moment's notice.

The city will offer a special Citizens' Academy for children this summer.
