Salem man clings to fridge as storm rips off roof

Posted: Updated:
A Salem man says he clung to his refrigerator Tuesday morning as a severe storm ripped the roof from his Lee County home.

The National Weather Service will now review reports to determine exactly if a tornado hit areas of Lee and Russell counties Tuesday morning as a line of severe weather moved across the south. The assessment, which includes traveling out to communities and looking at damage firsthand, normally takes a day or two. More severe weather could further delay those reports.

The homeowner tells WRBL News 3's Dayne Young he went into a pantry and held on to his refrigerator Tuesday morning as the storm moved overhead. The man was not injured but his home's entire roof is now gone.

Dayne Young will have more from the communities hardest hit Tuesday on WRBL News 3 newscasts this evening.
