RALEIGH, N.C. - A dramatic police stand off that forced people out of their homes in one Raleigh neighborhood ended with an arrest Tuesday night.

Police evacuated a stretch of townhouses in southwest Raleigh's Brook Hill community off Dana Drive as they searched for a wanted man who appeared to be barricaded inside someone's home.

Raleigh police said an officer on patrol recognized a wanted man, 19-year-old Antonio Williams.

Williams was able to elude being taken in custody and went to an apartment in the complex, police said.

One woman could be heard asking an officer, "How did he get in my house?"

Police and a SWAT team launched a series of what appeared to be flash grenades or tear gas inside that home.  Authorities could also be heard on loud speakers trying to coax the man out of the building.

Neighbors evacuated from their homes looked on for hours.  At one point a handful of people were left standing outside in the rain.

"Of course I'm concerned about my safety," Lashonda Dorcey said. "You know, they have rifles. They don't want you going anywhere.  You don't know what to do, what not to do, so of course it's a concern."

Police were able to take Williams into custody around 10:30 p.m. and sent to the Wake County Detention Center. He will face changes related to Tuesday's incident on top of other pending warrants, police said.
