Silvani slam saves Gators, walk off in extras

PHENIX CITY, Ala. - The Glenwood Gators are state championship-bound.

The Gators beat Monroe, 7-6 in eight innings, Friday morning in the winner-take-all game three.

Monroe's Jake McKenzie hit a three-run home run in the top of the seventh to make it 6-2, but with the bases loaded in the bottom, Chad Silvani hit an opposite-field, game-tying grand slam to keep hope alive.

Then in the bottom of the eighth, Silvani came through again. With the bases loaded, he drew a walk, forcing in Dylan Denny and sending the Gators to the state championship.

Glenwood will host Pike Academy in a best-of-three for the state title, beginning Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. If necessary, game three will be on Thursday at 11:00 a.m.
