It's not the warning you may expect to get on a college university campus.  Reptiles slithered to close to students and now there is a warning.

Two Samford University students were taken to the hospital after they were bitten by snakes on campus.

They were bitten by copperhead snakes. We’re told the students were treated and released from the hospital.

Executive Director of University Communication Philip Poole said it’s not unusual for the campus to have snakes especially during the spring and fall mating season.  Poole said the university wants to get to word out so students will be watchful.

“We are a wooded campus; portions of the campus [are wooded]. Because of that you are going to have situations where you are going to have things like snakes,” Poole said.

Students are encouraged to walk on pathways not in grassy areas. If they see a snake they are asked to call 726-2020 immediately.
