Cool School: Chattahoochee County Middle School

Posted: Updated:
CUSSETA, Ga. - Students at a local middle school love the school's environment that allows them to learn, grow, and get ready for their high school years. News 3's Naomi Keitt shows us this week's Cool School: Chattahoochee County Middle School.

"Sisters, brothers, family, friends," said 7th grade student Chloe Englebert.

It's how Chloe describes her school. Walking through the hallways most students agree. The small group of students, just under 160, feel like a family.

"You know everybody and it's not hard to get along with people," said 8th grade student Brett Thornton.

The small size allows them to get prepared for some high school classes early in their career. They get to work on yearbook. A group of students look at award winning yearbooks, Tuesday, to get some ideas for next year. They practice with the band. They get a chance to experience the JROTC program before they get to high school. The state of the art rifle range is a favorite for students.

"That's one thing that I can't wait to get in high school next year. To be in JROTC and participate in the rifle team and color guard and other kinds of things," said 8th grade student Billy Wischinewsky.

Students at the middle school point to their teachers as some of the biggest encouragement and help throughout the school year.

"The teachers, they sit there and help you. If you ever have any problems with your work, if yuo have any questions they're here to help you," said 7th grade student Joshua Abercrombie.

Principal Lane Lindsay says it's this spirit that has helped the school stay on the High Progress Rewards list for the 2nd year.

"We improved test scores by 10% or more across the board so that made us all very happy for sure," said Principal Lindsay.
