MANATEE COUNTY, FL (WFLA) -

Manatee County Sheriff's deputies made an alarming discovery during a spice investigation.

They purchased two kilos of a substance that was supposed to be used in the manufacturing of spice.

The substance turned out to be a pesticide known as acephate.

The sheriff's office is concerned that the pesticide may have been used, or will be used as an ingredient in spice, which could result in illness and possibly death.

Arrests have been made in the case, according to the sheriff's office.

There have been numerous incidents around the country of people getting sick after using tainted spice. Anyone with information on tainted spice is asked to call MSO at (941) 747-3011.
