COLUMBUS, Ga. - Lacy Morrison, an administrative assistant to Columbus Mayor Teresa Tomlinson, has been charged with drunk driving, Mayor Tomlinson confirms to WRBL News 3. This is the second time this week's a mayor staffer has made headlines. On Wednesday, a senior aide was suspended over intentions to pull a prank using a Colin Martin mayoral campaign sign.

Tomlinson says Morrison was on personal time when she was arrested early Saturday for driving under the influence and failure to maintain a lane..

"I had an opportunity to speak with Lacy this morning and obviously she's quite upset," the mayor said in an interview with WRBL News 3.  "[She] obviously didn't want to reflect poorly on the Mayor's Office. After speaking with her I asked that she take two days vacation as with Judy Tucker."

Tucker will return to work Monday after she picked up a Martin campaign sign last week intending to pull a personal prank on the mayor. In that incident, Colin Martin took to Facebook asking his supporters to be vigilant after Tucker picked up the sign. Tucker later apologized and said she would return the sign.

"Lucy and Judy are great people doing great things," Tomlinson told WRBL News 3 Saturday. "These two women have done great jobs for the city and it's unfortunate that these events have come to cloud. I know it has upset them greatly but at the same time do understand that the Mayor's office is a high profile position and we seek to represent the city well."

The mayor described Morrison as a lower ranking merit employee who does not have authority to drive any sort of city-owned vehicle.
