Harris County commissioner indicted on corruption charges

HARRIS COUNTY, Ga. - A Harris County commissioner has been indicted on corruption charges of bribery and violating his oath of office, WRBL News 3 media partner The Ledger-Enquirer reports.

Charles Wyatt is accused of taking payments in return for votes and support in contract negotiations, the newspaper reports citing the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He turned himself into the Harris County Jail after warrants were issued for his arrest.

Wyatt had been Harris County's District 1 Commissioner since 2003. He told News 3 he was meeting with his attorney on Wednesday and may give a statement later in the week.

Wyatt has represented the county's first district since January of 2003 and is currently seeking re-election.
