Video shows FSU's Jameis Winston walking out of store without paying for crab legs

TALLAHASSEE, FL (WFLA) -

Grocery store surveillance video shows Florida State University's Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Jameis Winston walking out of a Publix grocery store in Tallahassee carrying crab legs that he's accused of shoplifting.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office released the video to the WFLA News Channel 8 Capitol Bureau on Thursday.

Sheriff's deputies had issued a shoplifting citation to Winston on April 28.

They say Winston was shopping at a Tallahassee Publix near campus and ordered crab legs and crawfish.

He walked around the store while the Publix staff steamed the items for him. When Winston picked up his food, he was seen leaving without paying, according to law enforcement.

"In a post-Miranda interview he did in fact acknowledge he had left Publix without paying for the items. He indicated to the deputies he had forgotten and when he got home he realized he had not paid, but he in fact made no effort to contact Publix or return to pay prior to the Deputy's arrival," said Maj. Mike Wood of the Leon County Sheriffs Office.

Winston was issued an adult civil citation for the offense.

Publix agreed to the citation which is available for first time offenders according to investigators.

Winston completed 20 hours of community service and paid a fine.
