Lifeguards will be staffed at Cape Hatteras National Seashore

Posted: Updated:
Lifeguards will be present at three beaches in the Outerbanks this summer.

Starting May 24th through September 1st, lifeguards will be at Coquina Beach, Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Beach, and Ocracoke Day Use Area from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., seven days a week.

Local Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) says he participated in negotiations with the National Park Service.

The National Parks Service previously said that it did not have the money to staff any this year.

Hyde County, the Outerbanks Visitors Bureau and the National Park Service will be paying for the staff.
