Injured bald eagle chick recovering from fall

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. - One of two bald eagle chicks that fell 60 feet from a nest at Jordan Lake following a storm is recovering in an incubator.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reports ( that the second chick died in the fall from the nest, where a camera had been keeping watch on their growth since December. Footage from Thursday night showed rain and wind, with the two eaglets sliding off a weakened portion of the nest.
Enthusiasts have been able to watch online as the two eaglets hatched and developed, thanks to the camera installed at the lake by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The surviving eaglet is in an incubator set at 85 degrees at Avian Exotic Animal Care in Raleigh. The bird is now dry, hydrated and lice-free.
