Yellow Jackets use big inning to win ACC tournament opener

HOOVER, Ala. -

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets rode a five-run second inning all the way to a 5-3 victory over Wake Forest in their opening game of the ACC Tournament.

Not only does the win improve the Jackets’ resume for the NCAA tournament, it puts them in pool play in the conference tournament, where they will face top-seed Miami Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. ET.

Georgia Tech got six hits in the second, scoring all five runs, including three on back-to-back triples by Daniel Spingola and Mott Hyde.

The Demon Deacons threatened a few times, but reliever Dusty Isaacs shut the door when it mattered late in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Sam Clay got the win for throwing three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
