Tide drops opener to Kentucky, is eliminated from SEC tournament

HOOVER, Ala. -

Alabama could not come up with the big hit it needed and fell to Kentucky in the SEC tournament opener, 7-1.

The Tide still appears to be in strong position to make the NCAA tournament field. They now await their seeding and region.

Crimson Tide starter Nick Eicholz—making his first SEC start—lasted just seven batters, walking four and giving up two runs. Alabama cut the lead in the half in the third on a Wade Wass double that scored Georgie Salem, but could not score again.

Kentucky added two in the fourth and two more in the sixth, with the final run coming in the eighth.

The loss drops Alabama to 34-22 overall.
