HUTCHISON, Kan. -

Second verse, same as the first.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are once again the NCAA men’s golf champions, beating Oklahoma State, 4-1, Wednesday afternoon at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchison, Kan.

Trey Mullinax found himself standing over an eagle putt from just on the fringe on 17, with the national championship on his putter.

“I hit the putt and it went right over my spot,” Mullinax said. “I kept watching it and I was like, ‘Wow, that could go in, that could go in, that could go in, and it went in. It was just awesome.”

Mullinax’s 2 & 1 victory over Ian Davis gave the Tide the third point they needed to win a match that wasn’t decided until late.

“It looked like one of those toss-ups, but then all of a sudden we made some putts coming in and it turned,” said Alabama head coach Jay Seawall. “It looked like it was right there. It wasn’t easy, of course, but it happened at the end.”

Bobby Wyatt gave Alabama its first point when Talor Gooch three-putted no. 16, giving Wyatt the match at 3 & 2. Freshman Robby Shelton coaxed in a ticklish birdie putt on 18 to win the second match, 1 up.

Wyatt hit the shot of the day with a hole-in-one on the second hole.

The win is Alabama’s second consecutive men’s golf national championship.
