Area high school students graduate PCC's Vision's scholarship program

Our community spotlight tonight takes a look a new graduating class.

Nearly 60 high school juniors graduated from the "Visions Career Development and Scholarship Program" at Pitt County Community College.

Teachers and others recommend students interested in attending PCC. 

56 students plan to do just that.  

After the program and once accepted to PCC, they get scholarships and can renew if they get good grades. Students receive mentoring, tutoring, and academic and personal advising. 

The program's high school coordinator, Rebecca Warren says many of these students are overcoming the odds and for some, they may be the first in their family to attend college.


"To be able to see them achieve and see they come through those different things is really amazing. They're really tough. They're doing things and dealing with things that most of us never have to deal with as adults and they're doing it as teenagers," said Warren.

This is the program's 10th year of existence and over 500 students have graduated.
