TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -

Kennesaw State starter Travis Bergen stemmed the Crimson Tide for 8.2 innings as Alabama dropped their regional opener to the Owls, 1-0.

Alabama will now face no. 5 national seed Florida State—surprise losers to Georgia State, 7-0—in an elimination game at 12:00 p.m. CT on Saturday.

The lone run of the ballgame came in the fifth, when Kal Simmons drove in Brennan Morgan with a one-out, bases-loaded sacrifice fly.

The Tide had the tying run at second base in the bottom of the ninth, but Kyle Overstreet popped out to right to end the game and send Alabama to the loser’s bracket.

Spencer Turnbull took the tough-luck loss. He gave up just the one run on three hits over 6.1 innings while striking out two.
