MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. - It was a successful night in Carteret County on Friday with hundreds hoping for a cure.

More than 450 people at Relay for Life at West Carteret High School as the county raised $75,000 for cancer research.

As folks walked around the track, they had plenty of entertainment. From Zumba and live music to Relay Idol, which 9 On Your Side meteorologist Patrick Ellis judged.

Organizers of the event say it's been in the county for the past 20 years and every year it gets bigger.

"If we don't take a stand and show that we're going to fight, then cancer is always going to win,” said event chair, Heather Estep. “So with Relay, it's such a big event that we can really make an impact and show cancer that it's not going to win."
