Washington and East Carteret lose in state championship games

RALEIGH, N.C. - Both the Washington Pam Pack and the East Carteret Mariners lost in their respective girls soccer state championships on Saturday. Without the state's leading scorer, Christian Heggie, Washington was outclassed by West Stokes in the 2A State Championship Game. The Wildcats beat the Pam Pack 2-0, scoring both goals in the second half. Washington ends its best season in program history with a record of 22-3.

In the 1A State Championship Game, East Carteret lost to the Community School of Davidson in penalties. Lindsey Thayer scored for the Mariners just three minutes into the game before the Spartans equalized late in the second half. East Carteret unfortunately missed three of four penalties costing them the title.
