CINCINNATI -

A 6-year-old girl in Cincinnati is fighting for her life after being attacked by two pit bulls in her neighborhood.

When police arrived Wednesday night, they heard screams and saw several dogs attacking the little girl. Four officers shot the two pit bulls to death. Another pit bull was later taken from the owners.

"There was a lady standing on the corner just screaming, because there is nothing really you can do," said witness Terrie Martin.

"It's sad,” said witness Victoria Lane. “All you heard was just screams and tears, really."

The attack happened around 6:15 p.m. The girl’s mother was inside her home when it happened.

Police said the girl was playing with her brother in the year. She was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery.

Neighbors said the little girl was bitten several times in the face.

Residents said it’s not unusual to see the dogs running loose.

The investigation continues. Police took the homeowner and dog owner in for questioning but there have been no arrests and no charges filed.
