Columbus woman needs bone marrow transplant to survive

Posted: Updated:
In February 2011, News Three brought you the story of a Columbus woman who was battling a mystery illness that caused her platelets to plunge to dangerously low levels.

Frieda Wooley's search for a diagnosis took her to the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston where she was recently diagnosed with Bone Marrow Failure Syndrome. She needs a bone marrow transplant.

A "Be the Match" Marrow Donor Registry Drive is being held Tuesday, June 10 from 10 am until 3pm at Columbus Technical College in the Wright Health Sciences Building.

Frieda's siblings were tested, but none were a match.

150,000 platelets are the low range for normal. Frieda is living with 30,000 which puts her at risk of spontaneous bleeding.

Be the Match relies on tax deductible donations. Here’s the link to Team "Be The Match For Frieda" fundraising page: Team Page URL: http://www.bethematchfoundation.org/goto/btm4frieda .

A blood drive is also being held Tuesday on the site.
