American survives late rally, wins Tommy Smith Tournament

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The American Aces defeated the Peach Lions, 7-5, Wednesday night to win the Tommy Smith tournament championship.

American led 5-0 at one point, and 5-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, but Tray Richburg hit a long two-run home run to dead center to make it 5-4. Peach then tied the game when a throw back to the pitcher got away, letting Payton Holloway score from third.

With a runner on second in the top of the sixth, Peach intentionally walked Hunter Poe to put two on for Brandon Gates. He took advantage and lined one to the wall in right, scoring Poe and Davis Livingston with what proved to be the game-winning runs.
