The Winterville Town Council approved the new budget Thursday night.

The budget includes funding cuts to the library that amounts to around $60,000. A motion passed, however, to extend the original funding for the library another 90 days. This gives the council a chance to go before the Pitt County Commissioners to ask for the difference.

Councilmember Ron Cooper says he along with Mark Smith voted against the motion to save taxpayers money.  Cooper says its costing people about $15,000 to follow through with the request.

Otherwise, the budget includes an increase in water, sewer and sales tax. It's from the implementation of a law passed last year overhauling the state's tax system.
