Hwy 70 corridor study shows possible billion dollar impact for Kinston and nearby

Posted: Updated:
A new study looks at the impact of improving the Highway 70 corridor between Raleigh and Morehead City.

The study shows adding a functional corridor was essential and could over a thousand jobs every year in towns like Kinston, New Bern, Havelock and Morehead City.

It also found the corridor would bring in more than a billion dollars in goods and services produced in the area.

Corridor Commission Director Durwood Stephenson says this project would take a lot of time.

"The road building process is a slow one,” said Stephenson. “There's never enough dollars.”

Stephenson adds that it's critical to have a functioning freeway system to connect Eastern Carolina to cities in the west.
