Final reading to rezone General Mills property passes

Posted: Updated:
JOHNSON CITY, TN (WJHL) -

Thursday night, commissioners passed the final reading of a controversial downtown Johnson City redevelopment plan.

After weeks of debate the city commission said yes to rezoning the General Mills property

A majority of commissioners said yes to a developer’s request to change the zoning so he can demolish the historic mill and build apartments.

City commissioners approved it once before but had to vote again because of a technicality.

A nearby resident opposing the plan has sued to stop the development, and the Southside Neighborhood organization has vowed to keep fighting the plan to demolish the mill and build apartments.
