Columbus trash collection falling behind due to staff shortage

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - Columbus Waste pickup crews will work into the weekend to finish their rounds after falling behind Friday due to a staff shortage, Director of Public Works Pat Biegler explained in an e-mail to WRBL News 3.

"Due to a shortage of crews... crews will be working tomorrow, Saturday, June 21, to complete this week's pickup," Biegler said. "If you are on a Friday route and your recycling and/or yard waste has not been picked up, please leave those items at the curb and they will be removed."

Trash pickup is done first followed by recycling and yard waste, according to Biegler

The City has hiring actions underway to address the manpower shortage and hopes to have the issue resolved within the next month.
