An East Columbus neighborhood was hit hard by a pair of car thieves early Tuesday morning.

Two suspects were caught on camera stealing from a handful of cars in the Castlewood Parkway subdivision, taking anything they could find, including a few guns.

Some homeowners say they're concerned because those weapons could now be in the wrong hands.

“If you're not a registered owner, I would always say it's in the wrong hands,” said Gary Fraser, who had items worth thousands of dollars stolen from his locked car, including a pistol.

One of his neighbors had a pistol and a rifle stolen from his car. He caught the two men on his surveillance cameras.

You can see in the video that as one of the men was leaving, he points and aims the stolen rifle down the street. The homeowner with the cameras says the video is grainy, but wants his neighbors to be on the lookout for anyone that resembles these two men. He points out that the men were wearing long black trench coats.

Electronics and wallets were also reportedly stolen from cars in the neighborhood. Homeowners speculate that the men had some sort of equipment to break into the cars because none of the cars’ windows had been broken.

Police say it's important to record your firearm's serial number. That way if the gun is stolen, they can track it and return it if it's recovered. Both homeowners News 3 spoke to say they have their serial numbers written down and they're hopeful police will be able to track their guns and get them back.

The car thefts were first reported on The Neighborhood Watchers Facebook group.
