AUBURN, Ala. -

Relatives of two former Auburn University football players shot to death at a party and a third man who was wounded are suing the suspected gunman.

Desmonte Leonard faces capital murder and other charges in the killings of DeMario Pitts of Opelika and former Auburn football players Ladarious Phillips and Ed Christian during a pool party in Auburn in June 2012.

WRBL News 3 media partner The Opelika-Auburn News reports the families of Phillips and Christian have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the 24-year-old Leonard.

Roanoke native Xavier Moss also filed a lawsuit due to injuries he sustained in the shootings.

The newspaper reports that Leonard faces a trial that's scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 22. He is being held at the Montgomery County Jail.
