Thousands line RiverWalk to watch 4th of July firework show

Posted: Updated:

Thousands lined the Riverwalk Friday night to watch fireworks and celebrate the Fourth of July.

The United States marks 238 years as an independent nation as it celebrates Independence Day. In the Chattahoochee Valley, the celebration culminated with a beautiful fireworks show over the river.

The fireworks were shot from the Dillingham Bridge as people watched from both sides of the river. This was the first time in several years the fireworks weren't shot from the Columbus side. Phenix City hosted the show because Thunder on the Hooch had been cancelled.

Earlier in the evening, the celebration began with a concert at the Phenix City Amphitheater. Several local bands performed patriotic and praise and worship music.

It was a cool, clear night to watch fireworks. A contrast to last year's event, which was postponed because of the rain.
