WILSON, N.C. -

A fire broke out at the Bridgestone-Firestone tire plant in Wilson for the second time in a week.

Authorities said a 911 call was made around 6:30 p.m. saying there was a fire in the mixing department at the plant, located at 3001 Firestone Parkway.

This is the same area of the plant that caught fire June 28 but Saturday’s fire was smaller, authorities said. The damage was contained to ventilation ducts, authorities said.

The fire was extinguished within 30 minutes and the Bridgestone internal fire brigade was the first to respond to the incident, authorities said.

No one was injured.

Around 50 emergency responders aided in the extinguishing the fire, authorities said.

On June 28, plant manager Gary Williamson said eight employees suffered smoke inhalation due to a fire in the complex. One of those, a member of the plant's fire brigade, was among the first on the scene and was taken to Wilson Medical Center. Two firefighters suffered minor injuries. One was treated at a local hospital for a twisted ankle. The fire started on the first floor of the said Rodney Dancy, assistant emergency management director with the City of Wilson.
