A 21 year-old woman was shot in the arm Sunday night while sitting at a red light on Rice Mine Road and New Watermelon Road.

She survived, and was treated and released from the hospital after being treated for a wound from a small caliber weapon.

Investigators believe the truck the shooter was in came from Old Colony road and turned right onto Rice Mine Road where they met the victim who was stopped at a stop light on Rice Mine Road.

Sergeant Dale Phillips, the Commander of the Homicide Unit said they have been able to watch some surveillance video, but still need help identifying the truck the shot may have come from. Phillips added, “We're trying to give the person responsible, maybe some of their friends or someone that knows anything to say wait a minute we made a mistake we need to come forward and do this. We're giving them that opportunity.”

The sergeant believes the shooting is random and may have even been an accident.

The crime scene area commonly known as "North of the River" is typically considered a quiet, safe, area that is home to Nick Saban and other locally well-known residents.

So with the news of a shooting so close by residents area alarmed. North of the River resident, Amanda Chandler said, “I was very surprised. I consider this to be the safest part of town and to have that happen down here was just very shocking.”

Investigators believe the shooter may live in the area, and they are asking residents to stay on the lookout for a gray or silver four door Toyota Tacoma, around a 2000-2014 model.
