Arrest made in shooting near Fayetteville apartment complex pool

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Fayetteville police made an arrest late Thursday morning after one person was shot near a pool at the Eagle Point Village Apartments in Fayetteville Wednesday night.

Fayetteville police were called to the apartments located off Cliffdale Road just before 10:30 p.m. in response to a reported shooting.

Police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Donald Lee Nichols of Hope Mills. The victim was identified at 19-year-old Demarcus Turner.

Police said Nichols was an employee at the apartment complex and confronted Turner at the pool area. There was physical altercation between the two, at which time Nichols brandished a handgun and shot Turner in the leg.

Turner was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. he was then transferred to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill where he is listed in stable condition.

Police have charged Nichols with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
