CHINA GROVE, N.C. -

Prosecutors say six educators are among eight people facing prescription drug abuse charges in Rowan County.

Four faculty members at Bostian Elementary in China Grove are among those charged in the investigation of a group that illegally obtained thousands of doses of the painkiller hydrocodone.

A second-grade teacher at the school is among those who were arrested Tuesday on charges of trafficking opiates by possession. Another teacher at the school and two teacher assistants also face charges.

The others arrested Tuesday include an administrative assistant at a child development center in Kannapolis, a teacher at a preschool in Salisbury and another woman.

Police say a doctor in China Grove wrote hundreds of prescriptions for the painkilling drug. He was expected to turn himself in to police Thursday.
