NC police chief offers amnesty for illegal guns

Posted: Updated:
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

The police chief in Fayetteville is offering people who possess an illegal firearm to give them up without the threat of legal action.

Chief Harold Medlock is offering amnesty to anyone who will lay down an illegal firearm. It's part of the city's effort in taking a stand against violence.

Medlock says if people know someone who has an illegal weapon, that person can tell the owners to call the police to come and get it with no questions asked. Illegal gun owners also can surrender the weapon to someone in the faith-based community.
