COLUMBUS, Ga. -

The summer of supermoons kicks off this weekend and the WRBL First Alert Weather team says cloud cover should not be much of a problem.

NASA says this summer's full moons will all be "supermoons." The first will be visible Friday and Saturday nights.

The scientific term for the phenomenon is "perigee moon" --- it makes the moon appear larger and brighter.

Clouds and haze can sometimes make it difficult to tell the difference between supermoons and regular full moons, scientists say. The WRBL First Alert Weather team says there could be patches of clouds across the area this weekend but should still provide opportunities to see the sky.

The supermoon will return August 10th and September 9th. Experts say the one in August will likely be the brightest.

We invite you to send us your images of the supermoon on Facebook, Twitter or upload directly to our site.

Instead of destroying them, The Columbus Police Department is selling hundreds of seized guns. Some of the guns were used in crimes, others were found on the road- all of them now headed back to the streets.“The policeman in me says I’d rather not see that gun back on the street, we’ve already gotten a hold of it once, but you’ve got 550 guns- will every one of them be used in a crime? No. Some of them will be sold to someone that will enjoy the use of that gun for the rest of their life and ...
